THE STORY OF HANHSILK SILK FABRICS

Table of contents

When each meter of fabric represents a 90-day journey.

Hanhsilk silk does not begin on a loom.
It begins with life.

1. Silk – The material of time

100% Hanhsilk silk fabric is made from natural silk.
No cotton blend.
No synthetic fibers are mixed in.

From the moment a silkworm spins its silk until it becomes a complete meter of fabric, it's a journey that takes an average of a long time. 90 days, with more than 20 manual steps:

  • Silkworm farming
  • Harvesting cocoons
  • Cut the pupa.
  • Boil silkworm cocoons in water from the fig tree.
  • Soak your hands in water.
  • Pulling each thread
  • Spinning
  • Mac Go
  • Weaving on a loom
  • Wash – dry – finish

Each step is not just about technique.
It is a continuation of a traditional craft village.

2. Why does Hanhsilk silk fabric come in so many varieties?

Customers often ask:
"Why do silk fabrics have different prices even though they are both made of raw silk?"

The answer lies in four factors:

  1. Textile density
  2. Type of yarn selected
  3. fabric width
  4. The proportion of manual labor in each stage

Hanhsilk currently has nearly 50 fabric codes, but they can be divided into 3 main "families".

I. Raw silk – The original beauty

This line retains almost all of its natural silk resin layer.

Characteristic:

  • The surface has a fibrous texture.
  • Natural off-white or yellow color
  • Genuine wrinkles, not treated to be flattened.

This line is suitable for:

  • Traditional Ao Dai
  • Plain clothing
  • Art design
  • A lover of natural beauty

It has the lowest cost among the lines due to its moderate weave density and minimal finishing processes.

But it is precisely this "imperfection" that creates its value.

II. Premium Silk – The epitome of sophistication

The difference lies in the fiber density and surface uniformity.

The fibers are more carefully selected.
The loom is more tightly aligned.
Lower yarn defect rate.

Characteristic:

  • Smoother surface
  • Good drape
  • Maintain the beautiful shape when sewing the ao dai.

The common fabric width is 80–110cm, suitable for making high-end dresses, ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress), and matching sets.

This is the customer segment:

  • Designer
  • Fashion Partner
  • International visitors

III. Hand-woven silk – The soul of the artisan

Hand weaving means that each thread of the shuttle is passed through by hand, not by industrial machines.

On any given day, an artisan can only weave a very small amount.
Some types of yarn only yield a few tens of grams per day during the spinning process.

Characteristic:

  • Not perfectly uniform
  • It has some "breathing"
  • Unique

This is the highest-priced line.
Not for marketing purposes.
Because of the time people invest in it.

3. Fabric width – An often overlooked but very important factor.

  • 78–80cm: traditional, suitable for making classic ao dai dresses.
  • 90cm: flexible
  • 110cm: high-end segment, minimal seams.

Wide format is synonymous with:

  • more yarn waste
  • Weaving is more difficult.
  • Higher cost

4. Why isn't handmade silk "perfectly beautiful"?

Because Hanhsilk silk fabric does not use chemicals to soften the fibers.

No surface treatment using industrial processes.

Their hands were immersed in cold water to spin the yarn.
No glossing additives.

Therefore:

  • Each meter of fabric has a natural deviation.
  • It has floating fibers.
  • There are slight ripples.

But in return:

  • Safe for skin
  • Breathe well
  • Not hidden
  • Non-irritating

5. Scan the QR code on Hanhsilk silk fabric.

You don't just read technical information.

You are reading about:

  • Spinner
  • People with gout
  • Weaver
  • A traditional craft village that has existed for hundreds of years.

6. Hanhsilk does not sell fabric.

Hanhsilk sells:

  • Time
  • Patience
  • Culture
  • And honesty with the materials

Each type of fabric has its own code.
Each code is a unique personality.
No two types are exactly alike.

Conclusion

If you hold Hanhsilk silk fabric and find it's not too shiny, not too smooth, not too perfect —

That was intentional.

Because we believe that:
The beauty of silk doesn't lie in industrial perfection.
But it's in the breath of the human being that's still within it.
