Ms. Luong Thanh Hanh, also known as "The Silk Girl," a name affectionately given to her for over 10 years, was born and raised in Thanh Hoa province in a family unfamiliar with silk and without any formal training. She shared that, in her childhood, memories of silk and traditional crafts were virtually nonexistent. Yet, starting from scratch, she founded Hanhsilk Joint Stock Company, becoming a symbol of Vietnamese culture, a handcrafted gift deeply rooted in national identity and a symbol of appreciation for the recipient.

In 2011, Hanhsilk Joint Stock Company was established – Ms. Hanh is the founder and CEO. This led her to the traditional silk weaving village of Nam Cao – Thai Binh, a place with over 200 years of history but which had been declining. The silk weaver shared:When I arrived, the entire traditional craft village had only three households left practicing the craft.”

But with the mindset of "dare to think, dare to act, dare to face all difficulties," in 2016, the Nam Cao Silk Cooperative was established with 9 members, with Ms. Hanh as the Chairperson. By 2022, the cooperative had 200 members, with Ms. Hanh as the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors. With a new mindset geared towards international integration, Ms. Hanh has gradually brought the craft village back to its golden age and created jobs for over 1000 households nationwide, especially women over 60, helping them live happy, healthy, and productive lives. The silk girl confided: “Hanhsilk and I are always wholeheartedly and meticulously dedicated to our work, with the dream of preserving and conserving the traditional Vietnamese silk cultural heritage, and hoping to work with artisans to put Vietnamese silk on the world map.”
Sharing her goals, Ms. Hanh said she aims to make Vietnamese silk a symbol of high-quality luxury fashion worldwide, while simultaneously preserving and protecting traditional silk weaving villages. When choosing a craft village to develop, she stated: “In this era of industrialization, where machines are gradually replacing human labor, silk products on the market struggle to retain their original ‘quality.’ Therefore, I cherish handcrafted products and wish to preserve the soul of raw silk and silk.”
Thanks to her love and passion for raw silk, after more than 10 years, the Silk Girl has established two raw material areas for diverse export orders, along with a developed mulberry plantation in Vu Thu, Thai Binh, covering approximately 700 hectares. This is also where she created tourism tours and workshops to learn about the local craft.
With the slogan "Let's Handmade with heart together," the Silk Girl hopes to spread her love for traditional crafts to the younger generation, bring Vietnamese silk products to the international market, and create even more positive social impacts in the future.
